As soon as I purchased the G7, I wanted to add a few things to it that would enhance both its looks and its usability. Here are two accessories currently on my camera.
Black metal lens ring, grip and thumb rest.
This is really cool. Not only does it give the G7 a stealthy all black look, the grip makes holding the camera so much easier...a complaint by many of the G7. I stumbled across it at www.mycanong7.com. The guy who sells them is very friendly. You can also find a detailed review of this at that site, with prices and how to order.

Even through one of the hottest summers on record, both pieces have stayed put with no slippage. I was a little skeptical about whether the 2-sided tape would hold up. It has worked flawlessly. This is the best accessory out there for the G7.

Delkin eFilm Pop-Up Shade. One thing that the G7 does not have is anyway to protect it's 2.5-inch LCD screen. My S3 had the swivel screen that you could just rotate so the screen was
facing the camera. The G7, however, has its screen exposed all the time. One product that got my attention were the Delkin pop-up shades. I had seen them advertised for DSLRs, but not for point and shoots. They do not make a shade exclusive to the G7, but they make universal shades based on your LCD's size. I got the black, 2.5-inch universal size on eBay for around $13.00 shipped. Link to www.Delkin.com.A word of caution. If you choose this type of protector, I would stress to only get a genuine Delkin shade. This is because there are a lot of no-name shades out there, especially on eBay. What is neat about the Delkin is that you can remove the pop-up shade from the screen if you don't need it (e.g., dark lighted conditions where a shade is not needed that can make seeing the LCD even more frustrating.) The shade simply slides from it's frame. The frame of the Delkin remains on the camera (which also has a protective plastic film) that will continue to protect the LCD, even wit no shade attached. The other brands have no way of removing the shade, other than removing the whole thing completely from the camera.

Hello,
My name is Richard Franiec, creator of Black ring, Custom grip and Thumb rest for G7 and now G9.
I would like to congratulate you for the useful site and thank you for giving exposure to my product.
Siegfried from mycanong7 pointed me to your blog and I'm grateful for that.
He would also like you to contribute to his blogs and put the link to your Website giving it more exposure.
He says, that he emailed you, but did not received the response.
I'm looking forward to your input as it will benefit G community.
Thank you again
Richard Franiec
The only "problem" with the grip accessories as shown is the inability to use them with the Canon WP-DC11 underwater housing. The grip + thumb rest concept is great, just wish it were compatible. Not interested in removing and reattaching due to adhesive deterioration.
In reference to Hank's comment -
Im order to be able to use the grip and the underwater housing, I attached the grip with industrial strength velcro. Althougth attched in this manner, the grip still feels comfortable and secure during use.
Hi, I just received my custom G7 grip, but I think I may have received the grip for a G9. If I follow the instructions that came with the grip, the notch on the grip and the notch on the battery cover are misaligned.
If I attempt to align the notches on the grip and battery cover, then the grip doesn't sit flush on the camera.
I've contacted lensmate where I ordered the grip from, but they're not replying. So, I'm hoping you could clarify the proper placement of the grip for me. I don't know if I got the wrong grip, or if the notches aren't supposed to line up. If you could post a picture of the bottom, that would be greatly appreciated.
dean16,
It may very well be possible you received a G9 grip. I believe there is a slight difference in the body of the G7 and the G9. I have since taken my G7 grip off of the camera and have attached it to the full camera case (see pics on top of blog). So I cannot help you there. Richard Franiec who made the grip may be able to help and confirm this. I no longer have his email, but you could try asking this question here http://www.mycanong7.com/
I believe he, or others could help you better. Good luck.
BucHoopsFan,
I was able to contact Richard Franiec, and he replied rather quickly. FYI, the easiest way to differentiate the G7 and G9 custom grips is to check for the presence of relief under the straight lip of the grip (the lens side of the grip). The G7 grip is completely flat in this area.
